Stormtrooper Connoisseur

The Imperial Stormtrooper of Star Wars inspires me more than does any other figment of imagination. The sleek look, the white-over-black, the mask for a face, the catchy name, the filtered voice, the compact small arm—it all works. That they are human makes all the difference. That they are vigilant as sentries and relentless as throngs makes them endearing. They generally outmatch the common and this makes them credible. They are useless against heroes and this makes them amusing.

The non-lethal only criteria would do nothing, absolutely nothing, to make the Imperial Stormtrooper interesting. On the contrary: they would become the Keystone Cops of Star Wars. Sure we would laugh but Star Wars would become slapstick. The comedy would wane as it turned the adventure into a joke.

I love Captain Phasma. She is a boss and this does distinguish her from the rank-and-file. Still, she is a Stormtrooper in every fiber of her being. Her armor is chrome and she wears a cape but as the best of the Stormtroopers she is worthy of the distinction.

I am an avid connoisseur of fiction’s useless foot soldiers of villainy. I generally prefer that these characters are exclusively female. I like the idea of Stormtroopers being female… so long as they are in full armor. No busty breastplates, high heels or bare midriffs, thank you very much. Stormtroopers as Stormtroopers  is what I love about Stormtroopers.

I love the Amazons of Classical Mythology and the Red Shirts of Star Trek. I created my own as the Concubine Sentinels of Strange Galaxy. The selfless, loyal and obedient disposition, the compact weapon and the black goggles are all influenced by the Imperial Stormtrooper. Still, the Sentinel is not my Stormtrooper. I have yet to create my own. I am striving to do so. Yes, I could resign myself to fan art and fan fiction but that would hinder my professional aspirations. Alas, I strive to recreate perfection.
